All I Want For Christmas...

>> Thursday, December 25, 2008

...is to not be stuck at home with the flu (or whatever it is making me feel like this).

My temp yesterday was 99.4. That’s not “near death,” but I still feel horrible. I’m hanging out at home with my 2 cats as Pharmie and the family is opening gifts a few hours away.

I couldn’t sleep this morning, so I got up and rung in my Christmas morning with a game of Mario 3 on my NES. I got bored part way through World 6 once I had over 1,000,000 points and 99 lives:

(Which, BTW, reminds me of this comic:)

Anyway, I’m not complaining.

I feel like crap. I can’t stay vertical for more than 3 or 4 minutes without needing to lie down. I’ve only got brief snippets of sleep in the last 2 nights. Food turns me off (which is when you KNOW it’s bad). I’m missing my Grandpa and Grandma’s famous “Tom and Jerry” mix (which is like eggnog, only WAY better). I’m missing my Aunt’s deviled eggs. I’m missing hanging out with my 50 week old nephew. I sat down to write this, and I’ve had to take 2 breaks since I started.

But I’m not complaining.

I’m sitting in my warm home. I’ve got a family that loves me (and some of them might even miss me - HA!). When asked what I needed for Christmas by my Mom, Grandma, and Mother-in-law, I came up with very little.

There is nothing I “needed.”

Life can’t be all that bad.

Count your blessings this Christmas.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Sincerely,
Steve in a Speedo

(Update: 8:30 am - Julia, who I swam with on Monday, just e-mailed me. She's sick too. We're blaming the pool at the Y.)

You sure it is just not a fur ball stuck in your throat. Hope you feel better soon.

Happy holidays to you and Pharmie

Merry Christmas Steve!

I hope you get better soon. I have a sinus/runny nose thing going on but I think that mine is allergy related because my eyes and throat itch as well.

Get some rest and fluids.

So sad that our little Energizer Stevie is sick on Christmas! I bet your family dearly misses your smile and presence.

Rest and get better! And you are right there is MUCH to be grateful for. I was telling my husband the very same thing this week, there isn't anything I really need or want. I am a pretty lucky girl.

Merry Christmas to you, the lovely Pharmie, and your nursemaid kitties!

Hope you feel better Steve. Merry Christmas. Maybe you're body is tired from you track meet workouts. Give it a rest and you will bounce back. I really need to get you some new games so you jump to the next generation of gaming.

Of course it's the pool, you get a lot of funky stuff from the pool...I don't care how many chemicals are in it. Feel better, so sorry! Merry Christmas just the same.

I feel exactly the way you do. About Christmas, that is. I'm fine, as far as my health goes.

But I'm home with my wife and my kid and my dog and things couldn't be better.

Merry Christmas, Steve! Get well soon!

If anything is going to make you feel better it is Super Mario 3...the best game EVER!

Have a great day and hope you feel better.

;)

Merry Christmas everyone! And thanks for the well-wishes!

A few years ago I found a book called, At Home with You and Your Hair. A very 1950s cultural artifact, which I therefore gave to a woman I knew, who liked to carry big Betty Crocker cook books to her women's studies class.

So I guess it's, At Home with You and Your Feet. Wish there was some way we could trade places - and leave your feet behind?

As for what I "need," I'd rather not go there, but I'm definitely NOT getting everything I WANT for Christmas, again this year.

Sorry you're so sick. I favor the hairball theory, at least if you're given to washing yourself. That thick pelt! Could be something you picked up from the cat you cohabit with (no pun intended).

Well, Merry Christmas anyway, Stellar Steve and What's-Its-Name....

RoadBunner 2:45 PM, December 25, 2008

I hope you feel better soon! I am a big fan of the old school Nintendo games. The Super NES is still at my parents' but I think they got rid of our original NES :(

Merry Christmas!

I've been out for the count since 4a.m. yesterday too. So bad my neighbor called my landlord complaining that I was killing a large woodland creature or something. When I explained I'd been vomiting for 10 hours straight, the landlord goes "is there anything I can do?"

My response: "Ya, can you move the bathroom sink 2.25 feet to the left please? It's gross 'multitasking' with the tub."

He won't be calling again.

Hope you feel better soon!

Tyger Lily 2:59 PM, December 25, 2008

OH, that sucks that you aren't feeling well. And to be missing good Tom and Jerry's? That sucks.

BTW, I would never even consider comparing T&J's to Eggnog... T&J's are soooo much better! :)
