YakTrax Sent From Heaven!

>> Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Remember when I posted this photo of my blown-out YakTrax 2 weeks ago? (it was the same time that I nearly froze my bishop off)

I wasn’t complaining about them - I had gotten 2 winters of half-marathon training out of them before they died, so it was about their time. Well, after I posted that, I received this e-mail:

Hey Steve!

Hope you are well. I work with XXXX, the PR firm for Yaktrax / Implus Footcare, and would be happy to send you a new set of Yaks.

It's great to hear how effective the product has been for you, and I'd hate for you to suffer through the last month or two of winter!

Just send me your shoe size and mailing address.

Thanks!

Thanks?!? She ended her letter with “Thanks!”??? No, THANK YOU, PR lady with YakTrak!! That’s GREAT news!! Thank YOU!

So I sent my address and shoe size, and a care package showed up a few days later. It contained a pair of YakTrax. And 2 pairs of Sof Sole “anti-friction” socks. AND a nice pair of Sof Sole insoles!

So all of this raises the question: who’s out there reading my blog? Are you with a sports-related organization? Because I’d LOVE to try your product and talk all about it on my blog! I tried this about a year ago - lets try it again:

• If I’m racing, I have a belly full of Vanilla Crisp PowerBars. And Vanilla PowerGel. They are my race fuel!

Recoverite (made by Hammer Nutrition) is like crack to me. Their “Subtle Citrus” flavor is GREAT! I have a serving (or 2) after any hard workout or longer race.

• Except for 1 pair, I have only worn Nike running shoes. I strayed away once, but came right back! They’ve been working great for me!

• Come on, Speedo! My name is “Steve in a Speedo” for the love of Pete! Can’t you spare a few Jammers or briefs? One of my pairs is getting DANGEROUSLY close to see-through.

• My Pontiac recently ALMOST died. It was brought back from the brink miraculously with about $600. Now, I know you aren’t doing that well right now, GM, but imagine the publicity surrounding the new car you're about to give me!! I’m thinking something along the lines of a Vibe - I don’t have real expensive taste. I’m practical!

OK, we’ll see how that goes... If you’re not on the list but have something you’d like me to try, just contact me!!

In my half marathon post (2 posts ago), I mentioned I had a few bits of good news. Well, I have 3 little morsels of good news, and this story about getting free YakTrax was the first. I’ll have my second bit of good news shortly. And the third bit is the biggest and best!!

Thanks again, YakTrax!!

It will never be said that Steve in a Speedo is not shameless :-)

Man! I tried whoring myself out months ago begging for free airline tickets. Nada. I guess I need to post more gross pics of my injuries to achieve your success. ;)

Kim 9:29 AM, February 18, 2009

holy crap - maybe if i show some more boobies, i'll get some bras or something!

Unknown 9:33 AM, February 18, 2009

I hope the free stuff starts filling you mail box.

Sun Runner 9:36 AM, February 18, 2009

So, if I post about busting my own YakTrax on my long run last weekend, they might send me a fresh pair? Mine didn't even last six weeks! Of course, it was kind of my fault for smacking my feet against bare pavement to remove a wad of ice/snow. BUT STILL.

Dang, that is some great customer service!
Great half mara time too man!

SWTrigal 9:50 AM, February 18, 2009

that rocks! I love my Yaktrax..now even more..

Kim - four boobies might get us something :) i'll show mine if you show yours.

Steve - So what are you two other secrets or morsels of good news that you are going to share with us? Tell us, tell us, tell us!

t-odd 10:15 AM, February 18, 2009

Free stuff ROCKS! Especially good free stuff, not like bits of cheese at the grocery store or advice from your father in law. You really are kind of a tease aren't you? Just tell us the good news for the love of god.

The Boring Runner 10:19 AM, February 18, 2009

YES! I need to be better at whoring myself out for free stuff. I have no boobies to show either. What a rip off.

Vanilla PowerGel!?!?! Omg, it is like licking a milk cow - but not the good cow parts you'd want to lick.... the BAD cow parts. I think that is the only powergel that I don't like!

Of course, if I accidentally got sent a few cases of Vanilla PowerGel made by the wonderful manufacturers at PowerGel, I could be persuaded to try said PowerGel.

lifestyles of the rich and shamelss! ;)

Yeah, sure. Maybe we can use yuh. Just tell your readers we got the BEST GIRLS IN TOWN, all CLEAN, see, and it's all ON THE HOUSE, see, for STEVE GROSS, or whoever you are. Only, no more SOCKLESS TABLE DANCING, see. It spoils the trade. Oh, yeah. Before I forget. Amanda says the next "marathon" is free for SIXTY MINUTE MAN. Is that you?

Kelly 10:55 AM, February 18, 2009

You are lucky and I am jealous. I wish people gave ME free stuff. Gurrr...

RunningLaur 11:12 AM, February 18, 2009

wow, that's awesome!
All of your other news must be great too!

Missy 11:25 AM, February 18, 2009

Steve - Of all things, I work for GM AND own a Vibe which I love b/c it can handle all my junk. I can get a TT bike laying flat in the back AND I have a hitch rack if need be. I can't get you one to test and blog about (or I'd let you drive mine) but I CAN get you a discount (or anyone else out there).

Good luck on the Pontiac...

Really...good luck! Maybe they can get you a new car with the 2 billion in loans that they just requested in order to stay "viable"...

I can see you, jogging with gold coins taped to your man-bits, singing -

Gone are my blues
and gone are my cares.
I've got good news
to shout in your ears.
I'm in the money!

We all have our price, I know. Looks like anyone can have their way with you, for YAK TRAX and a PAIR OF SOCKS. Remember your SUPERSTAR STATUS. You're an expensive lay!

You GOLD DIGGER you!!!

P.S. I know you're a MEDIA CONSTRUCT.

P.P.S. Thanks for going metric. Anything you can do like that is most appreciated. We're very backward up here.

Jess 11:56 AM, February 18, 2009

Wow, that's really great of them!

Heather 12:11 PM, February 18, 2009

Way to go Yak Trax. I'm sure that free car will be on its way any day now . . .

Felice Devine 12:23 PM, February 18, 2009

How cool!
Good luck with the free car. Ha! Although, I've heard those car companies are feeling a little down and out, maybe they'd like to tap the runner market, who knows?

Nat 12:23 PM, February 18, 2009

Damn that's nice swag! Way to score!

Dude, I get freaked out when I stop and think about who is reading my blog.

tfh 12:59 PM, February 18, 2009

Hey, and the YakTraxs PR lady did a good job, right? Sof Soles and socks, too! And a little good publicity for them. Very cool. I think putting up my email address on my blog was the best thing I ever did in terms of getting contacted for this kind of stuff! (Although I'm sure risque photos wouldn't hurt, either.)

Carolina John 1:24 PM, February 18, 2009

glad to see you didn't sell out for some yaks. no, actually it is really cool to get free shit.

Anonymous,  6:18 PM, February 18, 2009

What an interesting new POSTER BOY for YAK TRAX, all tarted up in his ill-gotten finery, soliciting more and more presents....

You'll stop at nothing to bolster your ratings, but remember, those YAK TRAX weren't HEAVEN SENT....

Kris 6:21 PM, February 18, 2009

Hey Steve! I'm a first timer in Madison this year (pray for me...lol) Pre-season training has been going ok but definitely working on getting used to the time commitment! Are you on Facebook?

Hopefully I'll be able to find you and say "hi" at the Gear West Du! you wouldn't happen to be going to the Gear West University this weekend...?

Marcy 6:41 PM, February 18, 2009

Fo shizzle?! Dayum! You lucky B! Mine just bit the dust and you best believe I'm not buying another pair LOL. I'll just screw them (not in the perverted way. Pig! :P)

Gerry 7:07 PM, February 18, 2009

Thanks for advice! BTW, took your advice on hitting the "lap" button on each lap when swimming and I realised I was swimming more laps than I thought I was! Apparently I'm not very good at counting!
And congrats on the PR...if I could only run half as fast!

Lindsay 8:07 PM, February 18, 2009

what a hook up. i love your desperate pleas... i really hope gm comes through for you.

I Run for Fun 8:52 PM, February 18, 2009

Ha ha...nice try with the Pontiac!!!

Lucky you on the Yaktrax though! I'm completely jealous.

So what else is news? Pray tell!

Unknown 9:21 PM, February 18, 2009

Coolness on the new bling. I might have to try shameless commercialization and see if I can score.

Velma 9:55 PM, February 18, 2009

Nice! I want to hear about the socks - I love me some new running socks.

If you chat with the people at Speedo, could you ask them to make a tall version of their performance suits?

I got the questions, and I will send you a note when I post my answers.

Give us the news!

Michelle 7:13 AM, February 19, 2009

Wow dude!!! You are rocking the free stuff but all in a good way!!!

Again you sooo deserve it all!!!

RooBabs 11:29 AM, February 19, 2009

That's great about the new Yak Trax, but my theory is that it was a cover-up to give you the socks and the inserts because this "PR lady" is a poor soul- just like the rest of us- who is sick of looking at your nasty feet pictures, LOL!!

But really, that is pretty lucky. And good luck with scoring more freebies!

Unknown 4:31 PM, February 19, 2009

HA! It worked. I posted my own tale of YakTrax-breaking woe on my blog and not six hours later someone had already contacted me to send me a new pair. God, I love the Internet!!!

sRod 7:09 AM, February 21, 2009

Maybe all I need are some gross photos of snot and bloody feet and the freebies will start flowing my way.
