COLD Open Water Swim

>> Saturday, July 18, 2009

On Thursday, I headed to Nokomis straight after class to meet some CVA Triathlon Club students for another open water swim. (Note: it’s now 8 days until 4 CVA Tri Club students compete in their first triathlon at Chisago Lake!!)

I had a few minutes to spare, and I was HUNGRY. So I stopped at Walgreens for some Grape Propel and some Beef Jerky. When these flavors combine, it’s a DELICIOUS FUNK!

Grape Propel and Beef Jerky: the Funk of Summer!®

It was a COLD day for July. It was about 66 (and windy) when I pulled up to the lake. I have NEVER seen Nokomis Beach completely dead like this at 6 pm!!

So it was Cynthia, Sarah, and I:

My nipples are telling you that it was cold

Jeremy knew we were going to be there, so he figured he’d swim with us (he’d already done like 4000 meters by the time we got there):

Miss Allycat and Ryan showed up to swim with us too! Ally had rented a wetsuit for the Chisago Half IM in a week, and she was going to try it out for the first time. Here’s Ryan helping her into the wetsuit:

So we all finally hopped in and swam for a bit. I did 4 or 5 “laps” between the buoys. It was a decent little swim - nothing fancy. On my way out, I practiced dolphin-dives, because they would have really helped me at the “Splash and Dash” a few days ago.

We all hopped out and dried off. The sun finally came out!! But it was still freezing! Here’s Ally showing off her sweet Splish swimsuit (she has a matching swim cap too):

Sarah had to show us her battle wounds from her encounter with a car 4 days before. If you remember, I told you all how she got hit by a car while biking home from watching the LTF Triathlon with me. (Before anyone gets too pissy at motorists, it WAS Sarah’s fault.) Here’s a bruise turning yellow by her temple:

...and the front of her legs:

...and the back of her legs:

YAO-ZAH! That doesn’t look good! Sarah said she had to go home from work early on Monday so she could take her pants off - it hurt too much just to have her pants rubbing on those bruises! But she’s doing OK; she’s just a little sore. Be careful out there everyone!!

8 more days and the world will have 4 new triathletes!! Go CVA Triathlon Club!!

It's been a pretty cool (temp) summer this year. We had our last open water swim this morning at Coney Island before NYC Triathlon. Fortunately it was a lot better than the last time weather wise.

Poor Sarah! Brave Sarah, for letting her ass-ets be photographed (I am not so brave a gal).

The world is always a little better with more triathletes in it! I officially joined the ranks last month.

Does Sarah know that you put pics of her butt on the internet?! Those are some nasty bruises, and I hope they heal fast.

Ouch! Those bruises look so painful.

I still think it is awesome that you are coaching your students. They are all going to do so well.

Trameel would help those bruises heal up faster and not look so purple. Tell Sarah to head to a GNC store and get some.

Heck, Jeremy looks cold in his wetsuit. By the way, it was 98 degrees here this afternoon. We have not seen 66 degrees in a LONG time...even at night.

Grape propel and beef jerky?!? For some reason that reminded me of the SNL “Lazy Sunday” video…. Mr Pibb + Red Vines = Crazy delicious!

Wow, those bruises are crazy. Not cool at all.
