You Know You’ve Made it Once Someone Spoofs You!

Remember this from about 2 weeks ago? (Watch this if you haven’t seen it. It’s my 2 brothers-in-law and I cheering for the TC Marathon runners. I’m the rooster.)

Direct link on YouTube.

Well, as they say, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” Consider me flattered. Check out this video from the 2009 Des Moines Marathon this past weekend:

Direct link on YouTube.

I received that video from Tribeaner and Greyt Times yesterday. Tribeaner told me this: “We thought we’d bring your spectating style down here [from MN to IA]. It was AWESOME! The runners LOVED it!!”

THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN AT MORE RACES!!

Rules:
- Start with a dramatic pan showing athletes, pausing on costumed people.
- Costumes can be of anything you want, but the face must be covered.
- Play C+C Music Factory’s song “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)”
- “Freak out” in a crazy and amusing manner.

This needs to catch on nationwide. No... worldwide! I want to see a TON of videos like this! We’d make so many athletes happy!! Come on people, bust out those costumes!!

(p.s. If you haven't read the short story I posted yesterday, it might be worth your while to scroll down and check it out. Good times.)

Ok, but I am NOT going to imitate you by having glitter on my penis!

Amy 8:49 AM, October 20, 2009

I love the "Oh my god they're going to perform?"

Velma 9:19 AM, October 20, 2009

Love it - I am looking for partners for a St. Louis race.

tribeaner 9:22 AM, October 20, 2009

Afterwards, we realized we should have put a sign up ahead of us that read "You are NOT bonking - dancing jungle animals ahead."

I am so doing this. Now where can I get a costume????

BTW, I love the fact that you are promoting farm animal costumes AND your urethra in one post.

Kim 9:49 AM, October 20, 2009

The Boring Runner 10:18 AM, October 20, 2009

The world needs more panda costumes. There, I said it.

gmgizmo9 10:44 AM, October 20, 2009

This is GREAT!!! Hmm...
PS - Congrats, Steve...and your other animal friends, of course. :)

Regina 10:44 AM, October 20, 2009

AWESOME!!!

Shake and repeat?

Who can I get to do this at the NYC Marathon with me? lol.

Mom on the Run 11:12 AM, October 20, 2009

Funny. I was just telling a friend about you and your farm friends this morning and how I thought it would be fun to do the same thing.

Sara 11:20 AM, October 20, 2009

This is awesome - I'll be watching for dancing animals at the Seattle Marathon now!

Smell that Steve???? I smell a dance off.

Matt

Steve Stenzel 11:23 AM, October 20, 2009

Matt, did you see them dance? They would SOOO kill us. ;) The one on the right (fox? cheetah?) is amazing!

(FYI: Matt was the cow in our video!)

Coach Liz 2:08 PM, October 20, 2009

Ok, now I have to press Grey Times and see which animal she was.

Kelly 2:36 PM, October 20, 2009

I showed my friend your original video a while ago and he said "I'm totally doing that, but no dancing!". I like the dancing. Very very funny and cool.

sRod 2:55 PM, October 20, 2009

Oh! This video makes me very happy.

If somebody does this during the NYC Marathon they'll get a big ass hug from me.

As we ran a race prior to the dance we should get additional style points. At this point in watching the marithon it hurt to stand. With proper taper and rest, I think I could take anyone.

Steve, check out my blog post for today...who do you know in DC who'll do it???

Unknown 8:33 PM, October 20, 2009

Excellent! I like that they did there own "Jungle Animals." Hope it catches on!

Anniversary Moments 11:10 PM, October 20, 2009

that monkey's got some moves.
i would love to see a bunch of barnyard animals run a marathon to C&C Music Factory on repeat and a bunch of runners on the sidelines cheering ;)

Becca 11:23 PM, October 20, 2009

Yes, you defenitely HAVE made it ;) Such a good idea!!

Terri 7:42 AM, October 21, 2009

I'm Greyt Times mom and I'd recognize the moves on that Panda anywhere! Steve, you need to come up with a catchy name or catch phrase for these routines.

Calyx Meredith 9:52 AM, October 21, 2009

Oh please let it catch on! That is seriously fun. Thanks for starting the trend.

Julia 10:09 AM, October 21, 2009

I completely agree. this should be a requirement at all races worldwide!

Irish Cream 7:24 PM, October 21, 2009

Hey, Running Elvises (Elvi?) caught on . . . why couldn't this? I would prefer dancing animals anyday over a running Elvis--and maybe even over THE Elvis. Just sayin' . . . it's a pretty spectacular sight.

I wish I was going to make it back to NYC for the Marathon--I'd SO team up with Regina! DARN IT!

Kin 8:03 PM, October 21, 2009

Okay, I found my C+C Music Factory CD. Now I just need 3 costumes, a good race nearby, and to talk two others into doing this.

Iron Girl Nyhus 1:16 PM, October 22, 2009

If you press play on both videos at the same time... you all start dancing at almost the same time :) Yeah, I'm really busy.

Darrell 8:20 PM, October 22, 2009

I was at that race and totally thought of run as I ran by and high fived the animals. Way to be at the cutting edge of a trend.
