Weekend of Snow-Filled Workouts in WI

>> Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Pharmie and I went out to our friend’s cabin in Wisconsin. (Technically, it’s our friend’s Dad’s cabin.) On Saturday, we got the whole gang together to go snowshoeing. I tried on my new, new, cozy, cozy boots. They are good down to 76 below:

Then I ran out to “help” Al snowblow the skating rink on the lake:

My legs look extra twiggy coming out of those big boots...

We got to the trail, and I threw on my snowshoes for the first time. They’re rentals.

Then I peed my name in the snow:

Al and Luke took off down the trail to blaze a path:

Pharmie, Trevor, Sarah (with Oliva wrapped up), Jess, and Maddy

Al and Pharmie in unison

Maddy’s snowy butt (from snow kicked up by her snowshoes)

I kept running off trail to check out little frozen ponds and such. After one such excursion, I ended up COVERED in prickers. I tried to brush them off, but that hurt. So I just went the rest of the way with them attached and dealt with it when we were done:

Al, Pharmie, Jess, Luke, and Maddy

Maddy needed to “blow her nose” two different times. Luke offered his shirt both times. I don’t this she’s REALLY “blowing her nose.” That Maddy - she’s a sneaky one:

Pharmie and I grabbed a photo on the trail, and then we got a shot of everyone at the end of our outing:

You can still see prickers all over my pants

That afternoon, back at the cabin, Luke and I did the “Twenty-One” workout. You do 20 push-ups and 1 sit-up. Then 19 push-ups and 2 sit-ups. Then 18 push-ups and 3 sit-ups. Etc, etc. In the end, you end up doing 210 push-ups and 210 sit-ups as fast as you can (with good form, of course). Here we are just after starting, with Oliva watching us from the corner:

Soon, we got hot and had to get nude:

Pharmie snapped this next photo RIGHT as we finished a round and threw our hands back to catch ourselves. We BOTH look like hell:

Nearing the end of the workout, covering the living room in sweat

Later that day, we headed out to their homemade skating rink on the lake. Jess’s dad is anal about spraying the lake down with water to make a nice, smooth rink. And that work has paid off.

Al and I went to go play in the open water. We tried to break off all the ice near the edge without falling in:

Pharmie didn’t care for that activity. She gave me her “I-do-not-approve” look:

Sunday morning, before heading home, we went out for a quick ski around the lake. (On the lake.) I had never CC-skied before, but I strapped on a pair of Jess’s Dad’s skis, and tried not to fall over.

It was a fun weekend with some good cross-training! Thanks again for inviting us, Jess!!

Looks like an awesome time-I absolutely LOVE snowshoeing and will be heading out shortly this morning to get some in. With a fresh 10" of snow all day yesterday-it's perfect. I haven't done any ice skating since high school...hmmm, might have to look into that again. Hey, what lake was that on? Somewhat looks familiar, but then again all the lakes in WI look familiar when frozen! Usually all full of ice shanties!

It looks like you had a great time! I love snowshoeing and XC Skiing, but haven't really been able to do either since having our two boys. Next year though they'll be old enough to wear their own little snowshoes! We can't wait! :)

I was covered in pricks once. They were different than yours, though.

You made the freezing ass cold look like fun! Not easy to do.

Why am I not surprized that you shared with us your talent of peeing your name in the snow? Are you rubbing it in for those of us who 1.) don't get snow where they live OR 2.) don't have the equipment to write out our names in the snow with our pee?

At least we know that you were well hydrated, lol.

Looks like you had a great trip.

I hate you. That Twenty One workout is insane. I tried the same with a high of 10 each. I think I hurt myself. I don't actually hate you.

That looks like such a great time! I don't get the whole cross-country skiing thing though. It seems like a lot of work for something you can do in snow shoes.
