The watch that I've had since I got into the sport of triathlon has officially died.
I had to change the battery (for the second time ever) this morning, and it stopped beeping once I had the new battery installed. Not a good sign. I made sure everything was snugged up nice and tight, and it still didn't beep when it should. Then I went for a swim after class today, and it died and looked like this by the end of my first 100:
I've worn this watch for every race since 2007. My parents bought it for me after my first year of triathlons for Christmas in 2006. Here I'm wearing it for my Ironman nearly 4 years ago:

I have my first watch from when I got into this. Ironically, it cracked and died during my first/only Ironman.
I know what you mean, Steve. I always kept my first marathon splits stored in my watch, and when the battery died, I felt like I lost a little piece of my self. Now strap on the watch is about 1 month from snapping for good...
I've been holding onto my $15 watch I got from Target for ages. I love it, although it only does the basics - stop watch and tell time. Still, I couldn't do my swims without it. :)
PS. I hope your giveaway isn't your broken watch... hehehe
I found it difficult to throw out my first pair of real running shoes. They got me through my very first 10K and my first two half-marathons. So, although my story isn't about a watch, I know what you mean.
So sorry to hear about your watch passing away.
I'm sure you'll get a really nice new one that will make you forget all about your lost love.
Are you giving away your dead watch? Because that would be sort of lame.
Ha! No, I'm NOT giving away my dead watch! But (ironically) I'm giving away something that helps you use electronics in the water WITHOUT them dying.......
I think someone in the watch world should be giving you a watch...a nice new watch...and some watches to give away on the blog!! That's what I think, get on it! ;)

I had a cheapo watch I loved because it was accurate to one second per year, completely by accident. A mile after a hard fall in a race, I discovered I had lost it. For years, I'd go back over that course looking for that $10 watch.
I still have an Timex Ironman watch . . . takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.

BOOO! I had the same issue with my Timex Race Trainer after I had the battery changed. BY PROFESSIONALS!! >=/ I ended up replacing it with the same kit (Timex Race Trainer +HR) but "upgraded" to the one that lets you upload data to your computer. Have yet to experiment with that yet...
I would e-mail Timex. I bet they would give you a new one. That should not happen.
Think you'll get the same watch this time around or will you search out a new, improved version?
